#138 [01:50] <relsqui> well, judging from Latin-based languages I know any of, it seems likely that it's actually not possible in Latin
#139 [01:50] <relsqui> e.g. in Spanish, you can't split the infinitive, because the infinitive is one word
#140 [01:50] <DopeGhoti> indeed
#141 [01:51] <relsqui> I believe that's true of French too, so I'd assume it is in Latin

#553 [04:18] <Jessie> Geeeez, okay well thank you for your help. I knew my computer was crappy, but not that crappy :/
#554 [04:18] <xales> Minecraft needs just as much as most modern games
#555 [04:19] <xales> if not more
#556 [04:19] <It> i don't see anything about opengl there either
#557 [04:19] <It> minecraft needs 1.4 if i'm not mistaken
#558 [04:19] <Jessie> okay well thank you so much for your help
#559 [04:19] <xales> yeah, beyond the RAM/CPU being a good...7 years old
#560 [04:19] <xales> the GPU won't run it :|
#561 [04:20] <It> you could try running it on linux, which supposedly has better support for intel onboard gpus
#562 [04:20] <It> but it would run very poorly at best
#563 [04:20] <Jessie> Thank you, bye bye
#564 [04:20] <It> might be time for an upgrade. bye
#565 [04:20] <It> damn, i missed

#643 [11:16] <Kealper> so...
#644 [11:17] <Kealper> i used port 17 a while back for a program i made to sync computer times to my server's time
#645 [11:17] <Kealper> and just renently...i noticed that my time client started to crash every time it ran (yay no error handling!)...
#646 [11:17] <Kealper> and noticed that the time server program would not start, becuase it was failing to bind port 17...
#647 [11:18] <Kealper> so i made a raw connect to my server on port 17...got back a null-terminated binary jumble, decided to convert it to a string for shits and grins....
#648 [11:19] <Kealper> turns out port 17 is for a protocol called QOTD, and windows 7 reimplements it
#649 [11:19] <Shadikka> yup
#650 [11:19] <Kealper> coolest, but most useless protocol...ever...
#651 [11:19] <Shadikka> In general using ports under 1024 is inadvisable.
#652 [11:20] <Kealper> yeah, it worked fine on my old server, so i figured it was fair game
#653 [11:20] <Shadikka> And why not just sync both computers with NTP?
#654 [11:20] <Shadikka> No point reinventing the wheel. :)
#655 [11:20] <Kealper> not as cool, and the whole point of reinventing that wheel was for practice
#656 [11:20] <Shadikka> Ah.
#657 [11:20] <Kealper> i tend to do that a lot lol
#658 [11:20] <Shadikka> Then I understand very well :)

#661 [11:21] <Kealper> although i don't reinvent wheels as much as i used to :/

#727 [11:39] <Kealper> oh god yes

#729 [11:39] <AG_Scott> mine worked out of the box.

#732 [11:39] <AG_Scott> I love it.
#733 [11:40] <Kealper> ubuntuchosen: you are literally better off using ubuntu's amd drivers, the proprietary ones are garbage
#734 [11:40] <AG_Scott> AMD is better than Nvidia right now though in terms of linux support.
#735 [11:40] <KentBallz> cool thanks kealper
#736 [11:40] <ubuntuchosen> Kealper: well, those are the only what are working on my machine

#741 [11:41] <ubuntuchosen> Gosh, i would want to have such problem
#742 [11:41] <Kealper> AG_Scott: NOOOOOOOOO trust me nvidia is far better with linux support

#745 [11:41] <AG_Scott> So I don't think that's better.

#748 [11:42] <ubuntuchosen> ati/amd sucks
#749 [11:42] <AG_Scott> I guess I should get ready to leave in a bit.
#750 [11:42] <Kealper> ubuntuchosen: that'd still be using all the same drivers
#751 [11:42] <ubuntuchosen> use intel & nvidia
#752 [11:42] <ubuntuchosen> Kealper: so the thing is the drivers
#753 [11:42] <ubuntuchosen> Kealper: thats why i cant run minecraft?
#754 [11:42] <Kealper> i'm an ati/amd fanboy, but i also stay away from linux as a day to day OS, so....it works out
#755 [11:42] <Kealper> ubuntuchosen: possibly

#1385 [14:20] <pwnus> hey guys, im having some trouble with texture mods in minecraft
#1386 [14:20] <xales> texturepacks, or actual mods?

#1389 [14:21] * Mixxit [Mixxit@notlogged] has left #MineCraftHelp
#1390 [14:21] <pwnus> its the norse-craft pack
#1391 [14:21] <pwnus> ill double check that it is in fact just a texture pack

#1393 [14:23] <pwnus> looks like its 1.1 and not 1.3... is there a way to upgrade it? or is that version difference a deal breaker?
#1394 [14:23] <xales> deal breaker, sadly
#1395 [14:23] <pwnus> darn. do you know what i would need to change?
#1396 [14:24] <xales> the entire thing

#1402 [14:26] <pwnus> if im installing a "mod" over a texture pack what else would that entail? does a mod include changes to physics, sounds, the combat system etc?
#1403 [14:27] <xales> what do you mean?
#1404 [14:27] <pwnus> well a texture pack im guessing wouldn't mess with the "game" part of the game
#1405 [14:27] <pwnus> just the colurs
#1406 [14:28] <pwnus> but a mod could potentialy break online play if my client wants for example the jump distance to be "15" when every other client wants it to be "10"
#1407 [14:29] <xales> some mods break multiplayer
#1408 [14:29] <xales> most don't
#1409 [14:29] <xales> the texturepack is just a texturepack
#1410 [14:30] <xales> but it would need to be updated to function with 1.3
#1411 [14:30] <pwnus> any there any tools you know of that can do that for me? or am i looking at a night of re-structuring?
#1412 [14:30] <xales> it's not something that can be done automatically
#1413 [14:30] <xales> it's not a format issue, it's that it lacks textures for things
#1414 [14:31] <xales> for example, beds, new halfblocks, etc
#1415 [14:31] <pwnus> ok. guess ill get to learn a lot more about how this stuff works tonight when i upgrade it manualy

#1720 [16:17] <Barrylocke> so
#1721 [16:18] <AG_Scott> #risucraft is the mod channel
#1722 [16:18] <Barrylocke> I had tried both reinstalling java and reinstalling the .bin files for .minecraft
#1723 [16:18] <Barrylocke> but that didn't fix my sound issues
#1724 [16:18] <xales> what is the issue?
#1725 [16:18] <Barrylocke> again, sound seems to work inbrowser, but inbrowser runs minecraft pretty poorly
#1726 [16:19] <Barrylocke> if I try to turn sound or music on in the .exe
#1727 [16:19] <Barrylocke> it freezes for a split second, and then crashes
#1728 [16:19] <xales> update sound card driver
#1729 [16:20] <Taji34> ok, i'll see if the mod channel knows what could be the problem since it is most likely the mod's i'm running that are doing it.

#2137 [18:27] <VoxelHead> mr_fribble: (win/profile) Please create a new user profile, log in as that user, and try Minecraft from there. If it works, there's something on your profile that's breaking Java or Minecraft. If not, there's something amiss with your system as a whole.

#2480 [20:36] <ffrogman> so I don't think that's the problem
#2481 [20:37] <ffrogman> Ping: 22ms, DL speed: 11.85 MB/s, Upload speed: 3.55 MB/s
#2482 [20:37] <Kealper> and before i make my conclusion... when you say they just temporarily DC, you mean after the people loose connection from your server, your internet cuts out for a sec, like your router restarts? (wireless devices and all)
#2483 [20:38] <ffrogman> it doesnt seem like the router is restarting
#2484 [20:38] <ffrogman> it just seems like it drops all connections
#2485 [20:38] <ffrogman> then reaccepts them
#2486 [20:38] <Kealper> or is it just your networking on your own computer is getting disconnected?
#2487 [20:38] <mib_phsnp7> i'm not a computer whiz, my computer is ancient, but I think this is what you're looking for: Intel(R) Pentium 4(R) CPU 2.60GHz 1.29GHz, 2.00GB of RAM
#2488 [20:38] <Kealper> mib_phsnp7: do you know what sort of graphics chipset that thing has?
#2489 [20:39] <Kealper> mib_phsnp7: if not, there is an easy thing you can do so i cna check
#2490 [20:39] <Kealper> can*
#2491 [20:39] <ffrogman> it looks like after they lose connection the router just doesn't want to hold connections, so it drops them then reaccepts after about 15-30seconds
#2492 [20:40] <Kealper> ffrogman: that sounds like it might be restarting, or that it's networking driver might be crashing/restarting :/
#2493 [20:40] <ffrogman> I haven't changed anything recently though
#2494 [20:40] <ffrogman> I don't see why it wouldn't work
#2495 [20:40] <ffrogman> do you have any idea how I could fix it though?
#2496 [20:41] <mib_phsnp7> ATI Radeon HD 3600 Series
#2497 [20:41] <Kealper> no idea...if it is your router that is doing it, then your ISP's tech support might be more helpful with that
#2498 [20:41] <ffrogman> and I hosted a minecraft server for a few weeks without problems
#2499 [20:41] <ffrogman> ok thanks for your help
#2500 [20:42] <Kealper> mib_phsnp7: go in to the game, and when it turns black, click on the little java cup icon in your system tray (to the left of the clock on the start bar)
#2501 [20:42] <ffrogman> also it's comcast if that helps at all
#2502 [20:42] <Kealper> mib_phsnp7: then click the Java Console thing
#2503 [20:43] <Kealper> ffrogman: Comcast is wide-spread, and they tend to use a ton of different models of stuff, did you get that router from them, and is it a modem/router combo or is the modem separate?
#2504 [20:44] <ffrogman> well both are a few years old I think we bought them in a store not from comcast though
#2505 [20:44] <mib_phsnp7> okay, and before I do i'll mention about 6 of the icons show up, and then all of them go away a few seconds in. not sure if that's normal
#2506 [20:44] <Kealper> mib_phsnp7: uhh....icons where?
#2507 [20:44] <ffrogman> the router and modem are different companies so they aren't a combo, but that still doesn't explain why it would just stop working out of the blue
#2508 [20:45] <mib_phsnp7> java cup
#2509 [20:45] <Kealper> ffrogman: that's the thing that strikes me as odd...normally routers just happily work for years :/
#2510 [20:45] <ffrogman> I don't seem to have problems with non-server related stuff though
#2511 [20:46] <Kealper> ffrogman: but if it's disconnecting all computers on your network when it happens, and they all reconnect after like 10-30 sec, that usually indicates that the router restarted
#2512 [20:47] <Kealper> ffrogman: and a minecraft server is incredibly hard on transmit buffers, and loves to overflow them :/
#2513 [20:47] <mib_phsnp7> okay, I got in the console, what now?
#2514 [20:47] <Kealper> mib_phsnp7: is there error stuff in there?
#2515 [20:47] <Kealper> or stuff that looks error log-ish?
#2516 [20:48] <mib_phsnp7> not that I see

#2518 [20:48] <ffrogman> ok, well it still boggles me because nothing has changed...
#2519 [20:48] <Kealper> ffrogman: is it a wirless router?
#2520 [20:48] <Kealper> wait
#2521 [20:48] <Kealper> stupid question
#2522 [20:48] <ffrogman> I guess I'll try speaking with some kind of customer service later
#2523 [20:49] <Kealper> ffrogman: you are sure that no settings inside the router have been messed with?
#2524 [20:49] <Kealper> mib_phsnp7: is that all it says?
#2525 [20:49] <mib_phsnp7> yes
#2526 [20:49] <ffrogman> besides port forwarding, because the internal ip has been changing a lot
#2527 [20:49] <mib_phsnp7> actually

#2530 [20:50] <Kealper> mib_phsnp7: put the whole log inside pastebin so i can look at it in one peice
#2531 [20:50] <Kealper> there should be a button that lets you copy the whole thing, and mibbit should have a button that lets you paste stuff...called like mibpaste or something
#2532 [20:51] <mib_phsnp7> http://pastebin.com/3Wy9mcdw
#2533 [20:51] <Kealper> ffrogman: yeah, no idea then....you could try a factory reset on the router :/
#2534 [20:51] <mib_phsnp7> oh
#2535 [20:51] <mib_phsnp7> does that work too? lol
#2536 [20:52] <Kealper> mib_phsnp7: yeah, nothing strange in there....have you tried installing the latest graphics drivers from ati's website?
#2537 [20:54] <mib_phsnp7> hmm... not that I recall i'll try to
#2538 [20:54] <Kealper> but having it fail without any errors is really strange...

#2543 [20:58] <DeathConsuming> Hey, back for more help this time it's ingame matters
#2544 [20:58] <Kealper> coming back here is never a good thing :o
#2545 [20:58] <DeathConsuming> LOl
#2546 [20:58] <DeathConsuming> lol*
#2547 [20:59] <DeathConsuming> Anyway...I made an iron door but I can't get it to open from the inside or close from the inside for that matter,I made 2 levels for the door but it appears I can only open and close from the outside D:
#2548 [21:00] <Kealper> to use two levers independantly for a door, you have to use some advanced redstone
#2549 [21:00] <Kealper> you would need to wire the switches up to an XOR gate
#2550 [21:00] <DeathConsuming> Say wha...?
#2551 [21:01] <DeathConsuming> What the hell is advanced redstone...
#2552 [21:01] <Kealper> http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Redstone_circuits#XOR_Gate_.28.E2.8A.BB.29 <-- that
#2553 [21:02] <DeathConsuming> Lol...is there an easier way?
#2554 [21:03] <Kealper> not to make it so both levers work independantly
#2555 [21:03] <Kealper> that's about as easy as it gets for something like that
#2556 [21:03] <Kealper> but redstone is really easy to work with once you get the basics down
#2557 [21:03] <DeathConsuming> Blah...
#2558 [21:03] <ffrogman> you could wait for notch to add integrated gates
#2559 [21:03] <Kealper> are you playing single player or multiplayer?

#2577 [21:07] <Kealper> yes
#2578 [21:08] <Kealper> juts placing them on a thing slanting up will change them to angled tracks
#2579 [21:08] <ffrogman> DeathConsuming: you could use buttons instead of levers and it would be easy
#2580 [21:08] <DeathConsuming> Lol I don't know how to make a button, plus I probably don't have the materials

#2609 [21:20] <DeathConsuming> Ahhh
#2610 [21:22] <DeathConsuming> Do I use a half step to slant it?

#2741 [22:10] <Jackson413> but no i cannot
#2742 [22:10] <Jackson413> there are tons of files that go into this
#2743 [22:10] <Kealper> ugh
#2744 [22:10] <HATRIX> and there are three folders, and one unix executable file.... greyvulpine
#2745 [22:12] <GreyVulpine> Hmm, I'm not sure HATRIX
#2746 [22:12] <GreyVulpine> Can you do a search on your computer, look for any openAL files. see which one has been recently updated
#2747 [22:12] <HATRIX> lol all recently updated today
#2748 [22:12] <HATRIX> same time for all
#2749 [22:13] <GreyVulpine> Use that file to replace the file in minecraft/bin/natives
#2750 [22:13] <HATRIX> one folder is a 'folder'
#2751 [22:13] <HATRIX> the other two folders, and exec file are 'alias'
#2752 [22:13] <HATRIX> if that helps
#2753 [22:14] <HATRIX> okay
#2754 [22:14] <HATRIX> i htink i have something
#2755 [22:15] <HATRIX> i found a second exec. file called 'OpenAL'
#2756 [22:15] <HATRIX> it's last modified 9-10-2004
#2757 [22:15] <HATRIX> the alias was modified today.
#2758 [22:16] <GreyVulpine> how about libopenal.dylib and openal.dylib ?
#2759 [22:16] <HATRIX> woudl htey be resources? or headers?
#2760 [22:16] <HATRIX> i'll check both...
#2761 [22:17] <HATRIX> nope
#2762 [22:17] <HATRIX> .plist files under resources
#2763 [22:18] <HATRIX> and those '.h' files i mentioned earlier
#2764 [22:18] <HATRIX> all old though.

#2770 [22:20] <HATRIX> i tried to run the openAL exec file...
#2771 [22:21] <HATRIX> You need the Rosetta software to run OpenAL. The Rosetta installer is in Optional Installs on your Mac OS X installation disc.
#2772 [22:21] <HATRIX> I was informed of that.
#2773 [22:21] <HATRIX> would that cause the problem?!
#2774 [22:21] <GreyVulpine> bleh
#2775 [22:21] <HATRIX> lol darn.

#2785 [22:31] <Lish> I need some help with a dedicated box. Vanilla install keeps crashing on when anyone connects and I've tried the !server link
#2786 [22:31] <Lish> Windows Server 2003
#2787 [22:31] <Lish> x64
#2788 [22:32] <Lish> It's telling me that I need to log in (when it doesn't crash), but I'm not using a Creative version of the server software, for sure.
#2789 [22:34] <Lish> Anyone? :x
#2790 [22:35] <Jackson413> hold on kealper might help you
#2791 [22:35] <Kealper> you are 120% using the classic server if it's crashing the client and saying "You need to log in!"
#2792 [22:35] <Lish> Okay
#2793 [22:35] <Lish> I was talking to xales for a bit earlier today
#2794 [22:36] <Lish> I am 120% not.
#2795 [22:36] <Lish> I swear
#2796 [22:36] <Kealper> are you using a batch file to run it, or are you running an exe?
#2797 [22:36] <Lish> I've tried both
#2798 [22:36] <Lish> Same issue on each
#2799 [22:36] <GreyVulpine> Copy-paste the launch command in the .bat
#2800 [22:36] <Kealper> have you tried restarting the computer?
#2801 [22:37] <VoxelHead> No, never, not me.
#2802 [22:37] <Kealper> vox, shut it
#2803 [22:37] <Lish> I have
#2804 [22:37] <Lish> It's been restarted many times
#2805 [22:37] <Lish> And everything was downloaded last night (java, server, drivers), so it's all up to date
#2806 [22:37] <Kealper> i dun believe....start the server and PM me the server's address (if you don't want to send it to the channel)
#2807 [22:38] <Kealper> !unload mod_telnet
#2808 [22:38] <Kealper> that stupid module is going to make me have a massive stress-related coronary

#2851 [23:24] <Kealper> well that was a bit annoying....
#2852 [23:24] <Kealper> forgot the ssh port
#2853 [23:24] <Lish> okay
#2854 [23:24] <Lish> so
#2855 [23:24] <Lish> the guy running the server disabled flow control altogether
#2856 [23:25] <Lish> and it still crashed
#2857 [23:25] <Lish> so I guess I'm off to vm land
#2858 [23:25] <Kealper> yeah, it's not flow control that is causing it
#2859 [23:25] <Kealper> the transmit buffer for the server is too small, so it's overflowing it when someone connects and the mc server tries to send off the map data
#2860 [23:26] <Lish> so how would I adjust that?
#2861 [23:26] <Kealper> a vm might help that by not trying to cram a square peg through a round hole...
#2862 [23:26] <Lish> or is that something that's not adjustable?
#2863 [23:26] <Kealper> can't be adjusted, already checked that
#2864 [23:28] <Lish> hmm
#2865 [23:29] <Lish> I just tried running that server software on my computer and connected and it gave me a java ioexception: bad packet id 48
#2866 [23:29] <Lish> Is that because of java on my end or is that an actual error to worry about?
#2867 [23:29] <Kealper> using ZoneAlarm on your computer?
#2868 [23:30] <Lish> yeah
#2869 [23:30] <Kealper> kill it with fire
#2870 [23:30] <Lish> :/
#2871 [23:30] <Kealper> ZoneAlarm is really sub-par software :/
#2872 [23:30] <GreyVulpine> Zonealarm's been known around here to cause problems with hosting minecraft
#2873 [23:31] <Kealper> (totally serious, disable ZA and you'll be able to connect just fine)
#2874 [23:31] <Lish> Yeah, but I'm not trying to run the server from my desktop. I just wanted to verify that the file worked
#2875 [23:31] <Lish> which, I guess, it does
#2876 [23:31] <Kealper> oh lol
#2877 [23:32] <Lish> This is so frustrating.
#2878 [23:32] <Lish> I've put, like, six hours into trying to get this to work.
#2879 [23:32] <Kealper> :/
#2880 [23:32] <Kealper> did you try it in a VM?
#2881 [23:33] <Lish> Working on it
#2882 [23:34] * GreyVulpine wonders if it's a good idea to hot-swap a dvd burner while the computer is running
#2882 [23:34] <DopeGhoti> GreyVulpine: what interface?
#2883 [23:34] <GreyVulpine> IDE
#2884 [23:34] <VoxelHead> cold
#2885 [23:34] <Lish> interesting
#2886 [23:34] <Kealper> ehh
#2887 [23:34] <Lish> Lish lost connection: disconnect.endOfStream
#2888 [23:34] <Kealper> GreyVulpine: it'll probably lock windows up
#2889 [23:34] <Lish> 2011-03-16 23:25:12 [WARNING] Can't keep up! Did the system time change, or is the server overloaded?
#2890 [23:34] <Kealper> Lish: was that from your computer again?
#2891 [23:35] <Lish> no
#2892 [23:35] <GreyVulpine> I've done it with an IDE hard drive before, once, with no problems
#2893 [23:35] <Lish> server
#2894 [23:35] <GreyVulpine> Counted myself lucky, and never did it again
#2895 [23:35] <Kealper> GreyVulpine: yeah....i tried that before....didn't end well :/
#2896 [23:35] <GreyVulpine> But it's just an IDE dvd burner.. not in use..
#2897 [23:35] * GreyVulpine is tempted
#2897 [23:36] <Lish> also
#2898 [23:36] <Kealper> usually works with sata drives, because you can unmount them before unplugging them....IDE...not so much...lol
#2899 [23:36] <Lish> [INFO] Kealper [/67.177.131.104:51453] logged in with entity id 1258
#2900 [23:36] <Lish> 2011-03-16 22:40:26 [INFO] Kealper lost connection: disconnect.endOfStream
#2901 [23:36] <Lish> 2011-03-16 22:46:51
#2902 [23:36] <Lish> so I'm intrigued.
#2903 [23:37] <Kealper> caused from the overflow :/
#2904 [23:37] <Kealper> it didn't get the full packet data it was expecting
#2905 [23:38] <TobiX> IDE is not designed for hot-plugging, so you CAN fry the device, the controller (incl. motherboard) or both...
#2906 [23:38] <TobiX> On the other hand, I once hot-swapped the BIOS flash chip on a running system ;)
#2907 [23:38] <GreyVulpine> Oh, I'm totally aware of that TobiX
#2908 [23:38] <Kealper> TobiX: balls of steel on that one lol
#2909 [23:39] <GreyVulpine> It's just, I'm wondering if it's worth it
#2910 [23:39] <DopeGhoti> GreyVulpine: with modern drivers, you can hotswap IDE drives
#2911 [23:39] <DopeGhoti> even in Windows
#2912 [23:39] <GreyVulpine> Bleh, yeah, forget it then
#2913 [23:39] <DopeGhoti> (hotswapping IDE is how I jailbroke my xbox)
#2914 [23:40] <DopeGhoti> (or whatever it was called back then)
#2915 [23:42] <TobiX> Kealper: I did a bad flash and the system wouldn't boot anymore. So I took the BIOS of another system (slightly differen motherboard), booted, hot-swapped the chip and re-did the flash...
#2916 [23:43] <Kealper> lol
#2917 [23:43] <GreyVulpine> Nice!
#2918 [23:44] <TobiX> The BIOS of the slightly different board tatally freaked out, most of the hardware wasn't detected, but it was enough to start te BIOS flash floppy...
#2919 [23:44] <GreyVulpine> You got uber lucky.
#2920 [23:45] <TobiX> Today, I would mount the broken BIOS onto a Realtek 8139 card and use the network card flashing tool... Much less risk :)
#2921 [23:48] <TobiX> Well, that procedure is kinda documented online. But it has the same problem as IDE hotplugging... Chip sockets are not designed for hot-plugging, so they connect the pins in a pretty unpredictable order, which migh fry one of the involved components, if you are unlucky...
#2922 [23:50] <TobiX> Ohh, you can use 3Com NICs nowadays: http://www.flashrom.org/File:3com_prog.jpg - I even have one of those!
#2923 [23:53] <GreyVulpine> brb, going to chance the hot-swap.. if I disconnect, you'll know why
