It used to be that when I open the Multiplayer list, it would just take a bit to load up. Now it's just not letting them load at all. When I click to join a server, it takes a while but I either crash, get a timed out message, or join and end up crashing a few minutes later.

You have a few choices at this point. Either downgrade and reinstall a prior version of windows, or find a different computer to play minecraft on.
